Sikh Progressive Front demands early Gurudwara elections | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 1: Sikh Progressive Front led by S Balvinder Singh held a one day convention and the same was attended by cross section of Sikh Community of J&K and representatives of various Sikh organizations. The main agenda of today's convention was to impress upon the government to conduct elections, which are already due since last 18 Months and are being delayed for one or the other reason. All those spoke on occasion were unanimous on getting the elections conducted without any further delay instead of constituting/nominating adhoc committees to run the day to day affairs of the Gurudwaras. The participants said that the earlier experience of such adhoc committees has not been as per the Gurudwara Endowment Act, as these committees continued for years together thereby hurting the sentiments of the Sikh community of entire UT. Moreover so called nominated bodies were framed through back door selections and were not as per the aspirations and traditions of Sikh community, as in the past also the mechanism devised for framing these committee were not transparent and without proper notification. Celebration of Parkash Purab of Guru Gobind Singh on January 5, 2022 was also discussed in the meeting. Balvinder while addressing the gathering congratulated the gathering DGPC for taking a decision in this regard as per the commitment made in their election manifesto in the 2015. |
