Doda: Safaikaramcharis strike continues for 4th day, garbage piles up | ‘Regularize us or stir will spread to other parts of UT also, this is Aaar-Paar ki ladyaee’ | | Early Times Report
Doda, Jan 1: Safaikaramcharis going on an indefinite strike in Doda has led to the piles of garbage piling up at different places across the district. The Safaikaramcharis have been on strike for the past 4-days. They are demanding that they should be regularized then only they would resume the work. “We have been working as daily wagers for the past so many years. Every time we are told that we will be absorbed but the assurances have just proved to be a mere lip service. This time it’s Aaar-Paar-ki-ladaye. First the government will regularize us then only we will resume work,” protesters told reporters. They said, “We are paid Rs 225 per day, it amounts to Rs 6750/ per month. With this much money we cannot manage our families. This is sheer injustice with us. We urge the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to regularize us forthwith.” Protesters, who had assembled outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office at Doda, threatened that if their genuine demands were not fulfilled, their protest would spread across the entire Union Territory. “For the past four days we have been on strike but no one from the administration has come forward to negotiate. It seems that the entire administration is in slumber,” the protesters added. |
