Met Dept predicts widespread snow from Jan 4-6 | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Jan 1: The Meteorological Department has predicted widespread snow from January 4-6 in both Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh which may affect road and air traffic. The weather remained cloudy on Saturday across Kashmir. Met Dept said the snowfall is also expected over higher reaches of Kashmir, Zojila-Drass axis this evening and tonight which many continue till tomorrow. “Widespread snow and rain spells of moderate to heavy intensity are most likely during January 4-6 in both UTs with main activity on 5-6th,” a Met Dept official said. It said heavy snow is expected at some places during 5-6th January and it many affect surface and air connectivity. “Expect colder days and warmer nights from January 2 onwards,” the official said. Kashmir is passing through 40 days of the harshest phase of winter known in local parlance and Chillai Kalan. Meanwhile, there was a slight rise in night temp across Kashmir, but it continued to remain sub-zero. Met Dept said that Srinagar recorded a low of minus 2.4 degrees Celsius. The ski resort Gulmarg in north Kashmir's Baramulla recorded a minus 6.0 degrees Celsius against minus 9.0?C on the previous night. Another tourist resort Pahalgam in Anantnag district recorded a low of minus 6.0 degrees Celsius. |
