Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 3: The workers of Dogra Front (DF) & Shiv Sena (SS) under the leadership of their president Ashok Gupta took out a protest rally in Jammu city against the delimitation exercise as the increment of seats to Jammu is far less than what it deserves in the Legislative Assembly. Addressing the protesters, Ashok Gupta said that the administrative order of the erstwhile princely state of J&K as regards the two regions of Jammu and Kashmir was something like the Jammu Region having an area of 36315 sqkm with 5 Districts (Mirpur, Jammu, Kathua, Udhampur, Reasi) comprising of 18 Tehsils plus 2 Jagirs (Poonch and Chenani). While Kashmir region with an area of 22133 sq km had 3 Districts (Muzaffarabad, Baramulla, Anantnag) comprising of only 10 Tehsils. In 1947 after Pakistani illegal occupation of some areas including Mirpur district and Muzaffarabad districts the unoccupied areas (Jammu, Kathua, Udhampur, Reasi, Poonch Jagir, Chenani Jagir) in Jammu Region (26293 sq km) were reorganized as 6 Districts of Poonch, Rajouri, Jammu, Kathua, Udhampur and Doda and the 2 districts (Anantnag and Baramulla Districts) in Kashmir Region (15948 sq km) were reorganized as 3 Districts of Anantnag, Srinagar and Baramulla. Kashmiri politicians always played the dirty game of discriminating with Jammu as even though Jammu had more districts and tehsils in comparison to Kashmir but still Jammu were given less representation in the Legislative Assembly, Gupta added. |
