Kashmir, Ladakh brace for snow as WD nears | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Jan 3: Night temperature in Kashmir Valley and Ladakh rose on Monday as the weather office forecast moderate to heavy rain and snow on Wednesday and Thursday with a western disturbance setting in. Light to moderate rain or snow is likely on Tuesday at most places of Jammu and Kashmir and scattered places of Ladakh, the India Meteorological Department said. An IMD official said the intensity and magnitude was likely to increase from Tuesday night and cause moderate to heavy snowfall. Heavy snow is also expected at some places on January 5 and 6 that could affect surface and air transport, the official added. As of Monday, both Kashmir and Ladakh remained cloudy. Srinagar recorded a minimum of 3 degrees Celsius, against the 0.3 degree the previous night. The tourist resort in south Kashmir Pahalgam recorded minus 3 degrees against minus 1.7 a day ago. Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum of 0.6 degree Celsius against minus 1.9 degree Celsius on previous night, the official said. Gulmarg settled at minus 5.8 degrees Celsius against minus 6.1 degrees on Monday. Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, recorded 1.4 degrees Celsius against minus 1 degree the previous night, he said. Kupwara town in north Kashmir, recorded a minimum of 2 degrees Celsius against minus 1.6 the previous night, the official said. Leh in Ladakh recorded a minimum of minus 9.1 degrees Celsius while Kargil recorded a minimum of minus 7.6 degrees Celsius, the official added. |
