JAMMU, Jan 14: Government Degree College, Chenani under the aegis of its NSS unit ‘PRAYATNA’, IQAC, Social Science Club ‘THE AWAKENING’ and AZADI KA AMRIT MOHATSAV cell organized one day awareness programme on ‘KUPOSHAN MUKT BHARAT’. The event was organized to create awareness among the students about the importance of balanced nutrition. Dr Richa Mahajan, lecturer, community medicine, Government Medical College, Jammu was the key resource person in the event. She highlighted the growing menace of malnutrition prevailing among the women and children in India. She highlighted the causes of malnutrition among the girl children in particular and listed the different factors responsible for malnutrition. Dr. Pragya Khanna, Principal, Government Degree College, Chenani, said in her address that malnutrition is a chronic problem and a long standing challenge. She opined the bane of child and maternal malnutrition is responsible for 15 percent of India’s total disease rate. She exhorted that the malnutrition disease is most common in developing and under-developed countries and its general cause includes inappropriate dietary choices, a low family income, difficulty obtaining food, and various physical and mental health conditions. |
