| In absence of supervision public toilets vulnerable to mischief, lie in shambles | | |

JAMMU, Jan 14: The condition of public toilets constructed across the length and breadth of Jammu division is in dilapidated condition and they mock at the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (SBA) launched by the Government of India years back. Given the fact that these public toilets are in tatters no one enters them with the people forced to ease themselves in the open. This has defeated the very purpose of SBA since it was launched to eliminate open defecation and attending to the nature’s call. Not only the public toilets but the other related accessories are in shambles.
Sources said that the basic reason for the dilapidated condition of the public toilets is that there is no maintenance and upkeep of such public utilities. The concerned department has constructed the public toilets and has not followed it up. There is no guarding of these assets and as such they are vulnerable to attacks and virtual damages from different people. Ideally the concerned department should have entrusted the responsibility of looking after the public toilets and other accessories to some person so that any mischief is avoided. Since this has not happened, the public toilets are lying in shambles and the accountability has gone for a big toss. |
