Webinar on "Role and Importance of Music in School Education" concludes

HIRANAGAR, Jan 21: A two-day long national webinar on the topic "Role and Importance of Music in School Education" organized by the Department of Music in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Department of Sociology and Department of Physical Education and Sports of Govt GLDM Degree College Hiranagar concluded here today.
The chief guest on the occasion was Pandit Vidhyadhar Vyas, ex-Vice Chancellor Bhatkhande Music Institute Lucknow. A total of four speakers; Vidushi Prof. Suneera Kasliwal Vyas, Pandit Vijay Shankar Mishra, Prof. Ravi Sharma and Dr. Sharbari Banerjee spoke on the occasion. The chief guest Pandit Vidhyadhar Vyas is a renowned vocalist of Gwalior Gharana. He in his address expressed that Swar and Laya get attached to a person since birth. He inspired the participants to take the subject of Music to the grass root levels as it has been established with much of the difficulty by the veterans.
The first speaker, Vidushi Prof. Suneera Kasliwal Vyas, ex-Dean and senior Professor from University of Delhi, held that the efforts to implement music in school education has been started from much earlier time and Bharat Ratna Pandit Ravi Shankar has made great efforts in this regard. The next speaker, Pandit Vijay Shankar Mishra, a famous musicologist and veteran Table player from Varanasi, expressed that music is a best source to understand culture and tradition of a society and region and is a reflection of the same.
Prof Ravi Sharma, ex-Dean Faculty of Performing Arts MD University of Rohtak, Haryana believed that inclusion of music should be taken at the policy level of the implementation of education.
Dr. Sharbari Banerjee Musicologist in the Department of Education in Arts and Aesthetics, NCERT Delhi was the last speaker in the webinar. She explained that the position of music in the New Education Policy is taken into consideration and with the implementation of New Education Policy there are chances that the subject could get established better.
The programme was organized in consultation and support of Prof. Suresh Kumar Sharma and Prof. Shujat Khan Coordinator IQAC. At the end Prof. Vikram Singh, Physical Director and Dr. Arun Kumar Head, Department of Sociology expressed their delight at the successful conclusion of the webinar. The proceeding of the programme was handled by Dr. Bharat Bhushan, Head Department of Music. The formal vote of thanks on the occasion was presented by Dr. Mukesh Kumar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Music.
