Bari Brahmana PHC continues to operate from rented building; single doctor, little infrastructure | Many a slip between cup and the lip | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 21: Despite claims from the people at helm that the health sector in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir has undergone a sea change the situation on the ground suggests that nothing has change of the people. The Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Bari Brahmana inaugurated by then minister and legislator Manjit Singh in 2003 continues to operate from a rented building. Over the past 19 years or so there has been no improvement with the health department failing to acquire a full-fledged building. The residents of the Bari Brahmana and the adjoining areas are aghast over the matter and said that in absence of a proper building the health sector has not developed to the fullest possible level. They said the staff at the PHC is minimal and over the years no improvement has taken place on the infrastructure level. The residents said that just a single doctor is posted at the PHC and the medico is not able to cater to the health needs of the people. They said that no specialist has been posted at the PHC and at the same time the patients have to move to Jammu in order to carry out routine tests and investigations. |
