Machail facing step motherly treatment, alleges social activist | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 4: Prominent social activist Bhim Singh Thakur on Friday expressed dismay over the step motherly treatment meted out to Machail area in frontier Kishtwar district. Talking to a local news channel, Thakur said, “Despite Machail being famous for the pilgrimage and hundreds of devotees visiting the temple of Machail Mata every year, no attention has been paid towards providing the basic amenities to the common people. There is no road, electricity and water in our area.” He said, “Politicians like Ghulam Nabi Azad, Sajad Ahmed Kichloo and Sunil Sharma all are the natives of Chenab Valley but they failed to become the voices of people. They couldn’t raise their issues.” Thakur said, “Machail was given the status of tehsil, but no tehsildar sits there. On papers road exists, but on ground there is no road. There are Buddhists villages after Machail but no development has reached there.” He said, “We don’t even a hospital in Machail. Recently a woman gave birth to a child in a tin shed. We have to carry pregnant women on palkis along the tough terrain to reach the hospital. May be sometimes helicopter reaches there but for that you need top level influence. At present we are under 6 feet snow. Recently a pregnant woman and her baby died on way to the hospital.” Thakur said that pilgrims find it very difficult to reach the temple of Machail Mata. “The temple has not been repaired. Neither has it been maintained,” he added. Thakur said, “Kishtwar has massive potential of water generation. We have rivers, we have mountains, we have everything but no one has paid any attention towards exploring the tourism potential of the area. Lot of money has come to develop tourism sector but we don’t know where the money has gone.” He said, “Major chunk of the votes goes to BJP. There are andh bhakts of the party. But the people have not got anything from the party.” He alleged that corrupt people posted in the area. “We have so many resources but these are being looted.” Thakur said, “Even the recently elected BDC and DDC members have surrendered. No official listens to them.” |
