Electric wires on tree branches put lives at stake | PDD ki jai ho! | | Mohammad Sarfaraz
Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Feb 4: The tall claims of electrifying and resolving other related issues fell flat in the 21st century when electric wires were seen hanging on tree branches in Gujarbasti of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district speaks volumes about the negligence of PDD. The local residents of Malikabad Gojarbasti of Anantnag district accused the concerned department of putting the lives of residents in jeopardy by not aligning the proper electricity transmission lines on the electric poles. The transmission lines can be seen hanging on the apple trees and the department is taking no steps to align the electricity wires on the electric poles, according to them these lines are posing a severe danger to the lives of people especially children of this particular ignored village, said a local resident of Gojar Basti. He said that, despite various government schemes for power development in rural areas, transmission lines are still hanging on trees depict the sorry state of power infrastructure in various far flung areas of Anantnag that is called the gateway of Kashmir, especially here in Malikabad Gojarbasti of Anantnag district. “Many times in the recent past, we requested PDD officials seeking alignment of transmission lines on the electric poles, but our pleas have fallen on deaf ears, and it seems that since ages we have been plunged into darkness, '' said Bashir Ahmad a local resident Gojarbasti. The residents also complained that the electric wires were broken at various places in the area, and due to which they suffered badly during these cold days of February. “At many places the live electric wires were joined temporarily and the recent snowfall has also damaged these lines, adding the department concerned has failed to replace these wires despite several requests, but the hollow promises from the officials of PDD has disappointed us, '' said another local resident of this village. He said that, unfortunate part is that the wires are lying low on trees, due to which our children cannot roam freely and anything untoward can happen and the onus will lie on the concerned department, they hardly visit our area to check our problems that we are facing on a daily basis. |
