DSEJ, Medanta Hospital Gurugram organise virtual consultation on World Cancer Day

JAMMU, Feb 4: Directorate of School Education, Jammu, today observed World Cancer Day to raise awareness about the disease and to encourage its 'Prevention', 'Early Detection' and then finally 'Treatment' as well, by organizing a host of events in schools like webinars, talk shows, interactions, talks, speeches, games, contests amongst students and many other similar activities in schools and offices of Jammu Division.
The activities were guided by the Chief Education Officers at their respective district level with the help of the staff members, Counsellors, District Nodal Officers, ZEOs and other stakeholders.
At the Division level, Directorate of School Education Jammu organised a webinar in collaboration with Medanta Hospital Gurugram on 'How to Win the Battle against Cancer' in which Dr. Kanchan Kour, Director Medanta Cancer Institute, Gurgaon was the key Resource Person. More than 1500 participants attended the webinar Live and thousands others watched it on the official social media platforms of the Directorate and got benefitted.
Dr. Ravi Shankar Sharma, Director School Education Jammu applauded the efforts of the Counselling Cell DSEJ towards creating awareness about the disease which will help in saving many from preventable cancer deaths. Such activities are organised because they serve as a powerful reminder towards accepting and performing the role we all have to play in reducing the global impact of cancer, he opined.
In the webinar, Dr. Kanchan Kaur highlighted the signs and symptoms of various types of cancer especially breast cancer, cervical cancer, lung cancer etc., their diagnosis and treatment. She emphasized more on the 'Early Detection' aspects of the disease and said that prevention is better than cure.
The main highlight of the event was the 'Question -Answer' session wherein Dr Kanchan Kour answered the queries raised by the participants and gave helpful tips, guidance along-with clarifying doubts and busting myths and misinformation about the disease. Dr. Romesh Kumar Sharma, Counselling Cell, DSEJ reiterated the commitment of Counselling cell towards ensuring well-being (physical, emotional, social) of all the stakeholders as warranted by the guidelines of Manodarpan.
Dr. Alka Sharma moderated the proceedings of the webinar, while Counsellor Shanti Saroop Sharma presented the formal vote of thanks.
Bindu Kumari and Rohit Chopra helped in the smooth conduct of the proceedings of the webinar.
The activities were conducted by the Directorate in all the 10 districts of Jammu division under the guidance of Principal Secretary to Government, Education, B K Singh and direct supervision of Dr. Ravi Shankar Sharma, Director School Education Jammu.
