3rd ABC/ARV monitoring committee meeting of JMC held | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 4: Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Avny Lavasa today chaired the 3rd ABC/ARV monitoring committee meeting to review the current status of ongoing ABC/ARV programme within JMC limits. The meeting was attended by the members of ABC monitoring Committee. During the meeting, threadbare discussions were held on various aspects of ABC/ ARV programme being run by JMC and various decisions were taken for better progress of ongoing ABC/ARV programme at MACC Roop Nagar, Jammu. MVO, JMC Dr. Sushil Kumar Sharma presented the current status of ABC/ ARV Programme before the committee members that since the award of contract to the implementing agency 5239 stray dogs have been sterilized/ vaccinated with ward wise/ complaint basis catching and all sterilized/ vaccinated dogs are relocated in the same area from where they were caught as per the guidelines of the ABC (Dogs) Rules, 2001, promulgated under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act, 1960. In the meeting, it was decided that the local animal welfare organizations in collaboration with JMC shall contribute in counseling of general public through conducting awareness camps about improving human behavior towards community dogs and should make diligent efforts to sensitize, inform and educate the community about the effectiveness of ABC/ARV programme in helping to reduce dog population as well as in eradicating rabies. It was also decided that ward wise catching shall be done so that no area will be left uncovered for sterilization and vaccinations within JMC limits. |
