Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 8: S.S Sodhi, Chairman, J&K Intellectual Civil Society, New Delhi along with the other members expressed condolence at the sad demise of the legendary singer and Bharat Ratna, Lata Mangeshkar and prayed for the peace of her departed soul. Fondly called as 'Didi', veteran Lata ji passed away today morning at the age of 92. She was famous for all the songs she sang, including the historic patriotic song, 'Aye mere watan ke logo,' which had brought tears in the eyes of then President of India, Dr. S. Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru, then Prime Minister as she sang this melodious song at the National Stadium on 27 January, 1963. Saluting the magical quality of Lata Ji's singing, Sodhi remarked that it had a tremendous moving power over the people of the whole world, all sectors and age groups whether young or old, cutting across geographical and national boundaries. Having recorded 50,000 songs in different languages, and recipient of many awards, Lata Ji's voice will echo in the hearts of citizens for years to come. Sodhi said that India had been blessed by God with the birth of such a melodious queen and that there would be no other like her ever again. |
