NHIDCL takes people hostage, electricity lines suffer damages due to contractor’s negligence

Jammu, Mar 5: Due to open violation of the contract norms, the contractors engaged by the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited has gone haywire while carrying out the road widening and road upgrading on the National Highway 244 from Kuriya to Chatroo as a result of which the transmission and electricity lines passes through the area suffered massive damages as a result of which the people are facing inconvenience both on damages to infrastructure as well as suffering while traveling on the road due to non professionalism of the construction company and their local sublet contractors.
As per the details available with Early Times, the people of Chatroo and Mughalmaidan are suffering due to non seriousness approach by NHIDCL department who have damaged electricity lines, poles at many places as a result of which today as on dated 5th March, 2022 there is no electricity in the area since morning.
The locals urge upon the District administration as well as to the Executive Engineer PDD, AEE concern and other staff members to immediately restore the electricity in Mugalmaidan and Chatroo areas. The people said that due to the unplanned and haphazard construction, the people traveling on this road are the worst victims going through unnecessary trauma and urged upon the government to curb the practice of engaging of non deserving and non qualified contractors as sublets added that the primary contractor has sublet the construction work who further sublet it with only ulterior motive to rob the state exchequer.
Meanwhile PDD department also take up the matter with the General Manager (P), NHIDCL, PMU-Kishtwar and raise the issue of damages caused due to construction and upgradation of two lanes from Kurya to Chatroo on NH-244.
“Kindly refer to the subject cited above it is intimated that the work of widening taken by NHIDCL authorities from Kurya Chatroo NH-244. It has been found that at various locations the 11 KV trunk line Chatroo / Kurya-Thakrie feeder is likely to get damage if further widening of road takes
places at Sangambhati / Gagrinmarh / Udil / Chatroo TRC” read the communication that further added that the contractor has dumped the muck at various locations due to which ground clearance of 11 KV line has become very low which
may caused electrical accident / loss of general public and their property.
“So it is hereby requested to kindly direct the contractor to get the work stopped at above mention locations otherwise in case of any mishappening / loss of life or power outages, the reposibility shall lie solely on the shoulders of NHIDCL” the communication by Xen PDD Kishtwar dated 17-2-2022 stated followed by request of an early action requires to be intitated in this matter.
However despite repeated requests by the people and the PDD department Kishtwar, the contractors engaged in violation of the norms continue to violate the Stand Operation Proceedings (SOPs) required to be followed in letter and spirit.
Meanwhile till the drafting of the news report, the electricity in the affacted areas has not be restored that further angered the people of the area.
