Jammu, Mar 24: The Jammu and Kashmir government has recommended a CBI probe into the allegations leveled by former Governor Satya Pal Malik that he was offered Rs 300 crore bribe. It’s in place to mention here that on October 17, 2021, Malik had said at a function in Rajasthan, “Two files had come for my consideration. One of the secretaries told me that if I approve these, I can get Rs 150 crore each. I turned down the offer saying that I had brought five ‘kurta-pyjamas’ to Kashmir and will just go back with them.” Malik had alleged that he was offered Rs 300 crore in return for clearing the files of two big industrial houses. However, he refused to accept the money and cancelled the deals. Following such serious allegations by the former Governor, the J&K government has recommended that the CBI investigate the matter to ascertain the facts and the details. An analyst while talking to Early Times said, “Once the CBI starts the probe it will put to questioning the top officials and the former J&K Governor Malik. The ones who can be questioned could include the serving IAS officers also.” He said, “Malik also needs to tell the people how come did the people working with him mustered courage to offer him the bribe.” Malik had said that he had met Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, and had apprised him about the matter. He had praised PM Modi for asking him to act tough and making it clear that there could be no compromise on corruption. It may be recalled that Governor Malik had cancelled the deal of group insurance of the government employees. The insurance was to be done by the Reliance group. |
