Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Mar 31: A number of casual labourers, who were protesting in Srinagar for implementation of the Minimum Wages Act and regularisation, were detained on Thursday, eyewitnesses said. They said hundreds of slogan-shouting casual labourers of various departments, holding banners and placards, gathered at Press Enclave Residency Road in Srinagar and held protest demonstrations in favour of their demands and tried to march towards the Lal Chowk. Police personnel deployed in strength stopped the agitators and did not allow them to march towards the capital city. However, the demonstrators tried to break the barricade, which led police to resort to a mild lathi charge. Dozens of demonstrators, including President of Jammu and Kashmir Casual/Daily Wagers Forum Sajad Ahmad Parray, were taken into preventive custody. The demonstrations assembled outside the nearby Kothibagh Police station and staged a sit-in there. However, they dispersed peacefully later. |
