I don’t even own a house in Kashmir: Rather | Sets one-weeks deadline for accuser to tender public apology | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Mar 31: Former Finance Minister and National Conference veteran leader, Abdul Rahim Rather has rebuffed the allegations leveled against him by a social activist about him owning huge properties in Kashmir and foreign countries. Rather while addressing a news conference here said, “I live in a rented house and despite remaining a MLA for 36 years and 20 years as a cabinet minister I don’t own a house in Kashmir. Owning houses in foreign countries is out of question.” He said, “I give one week’s time to the person who has leveled these allegations against me to tender a public apology, if he fails to tender an apology within a week I will move the court to save my honour.” Rather said, “I urge the media to visit Chadoora and find out how many shopping complexes I own. It’s unfortunate that despite having a clean political career I am being targeted.” Rather said, “The government had asked me to vacate the rented accommodation where I am putting up with my family but I moved court to seek relief as I don’t have a place where I can go and stay. My house is still under construction.” Rather while responding to the allegations of corruption against his son, said, “The cases against him are being investigated and law is taking its own course. He doesn’t stay with me, he lives separately. After facing so many hardships in politics I don’t want any of my family members to join politics.” |
