Shiv Sena seeks relief from inflation, demands to bring petrol, diesel under GST | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 6: The leaders of Shiv Sena Jammu & Kashmir unit staged a strong protest against unprecedented inflation and rocketing prices of petrol and diesel here today. The Shiv Sainiks raised slogans and sought immediate relief to the common people amidst spine breaking inflation. The protesters demanded instant reduction of excise duty on petrol and diesel besides bringing these items under the ambit of Goods and Services Tax (GST). UT President, Manish Sahni demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should instantly bring petrol and diesel under the ambit of Goods and Services Tax (GST). He stated that the public is being brazenly looted by imposing duty after duty on petrol, diesel and gas with people being befooled by providing them free food grains worth Rs. 100. Sahni said that in 2013-14, excise duty was collected on petrol at Rs 9.20 per litre, while on diesel Rs 3.46 per litre which has increased to 27.90 and 21.80 per litre as of today. Moreover, in March 2014, the price of gas cylinder which was only Rs. 410 but today it has crossed the Rs. 1000 mark. The Shiv Sena leader lamented that the interest rate on all the savings schemes has reached to its lowest with toll tax also having increased by 10 percent. He appealed to the Prime Minister to take drastic measures in reign in the unprecedented price hike and inflation so that common people of this nation heave a sigh of relief. |
