2 injured in Handwara firing | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Apr 7: Two civilians were injured in a firing incident allegedly by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Handwara area, officials and witnesses said. Officials said the incident took place after an argument between the forces and locals over filming of prayers at a mosque in Handwara. "Some people objected to the filming and there was an altercation. During the altercation, there was firing in which two civilians were wounded," an official said. Both the injured were taken to hospital for treatment. Witness alleged that a security man opened fire on the civilians. Former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti condemned the incident. "GOI's (Government of Indi'as) interference in religious matters by its unwarranted surveillance of a simple act of offering prayers shows that Kashmiris pay dearly for the illusion of Naya Kashmir," she tweeted. J&K Peoples Conference President Sajad Gani Lone condemned the incident and demanded an impartial probe. "What a sorry state of affairs... Hoping against hope the guilty are punished," he said. |
