Gold Card not working
4/8/2022 11:41:29 PM
Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, had empowered a common man by handing him over the Ayushman Bharat Card, popularly known as Gold Card. The card provides a family of a common man with the health insurance of Rs 5 lakhs.
When this card was launched people were told that they could get themselves treated in any government or private hospital across the country. But in many cases it has been seen that the Gold Card can be used only for preliminary treatment. No major surgeries are performed on the card.
A poor driver, Samporan Singh, who had met with an accident three years ago, while narrating his woes to the media, revealed that he needs Rs 3.5 lakhs for his leg surgery as the private hospitals have refused to conduct the surgery on the Ayushman Card. The government hospitals have turned him down citing the lack of facilities as a reason. He is seeking help from philanthropists to get his surgery performed as he has realized that the “Gold Card” won’t help him.
Patients who get admitted in the government hospitals have been complaining about expensive medicines not being available in the hospitals and they are being asked to purchase the same from the open market. The question which needs to be answered is that if the patients have to buy the medicines from the open market then what’s the use of the Gold Card?
The Prime Minister had launched this card with an aim to ensure that no one remains deprived of the healthcare facilities, but it appears that the ones who have to ensure that poor don’t suffer are not interested in helping a common man. If they continue to keep the patients deprived of the facilities that have been promised on the “Gold Card” a common man will lose hope on the system and the dream of PM Modi to help everyone won’t get realized.
The Union Health Ministry should take note of the complaints of the common people. A probe should be ordered to ascertain why the private hospitals are not honouring the “Gold Card”? If the insurance cover of Rs 5 lakhs has been provided to each family then why are not the private hospitals performing the surgery of Samporan Singh ?
