Youth Cong stages protest against Centre over COVID deaths | | | agencies NEW DELHI, May 9: The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) on Monday staged a sit-in protest against the Centre over World Health Organisation (WHO) report on Covid deaths. Members of the Youth Congress held the demonstration at the Jantar Mantar here and demanded ex-gratia of Rs four lakh to the families who lost their loved ones due to Covid. "According to the WHO report, 47 lakh people died due to Covid in India. Why did the Central government hide these figures from the people of the country ? Who is responsible for these deaths? The BJP government covered the figures to hide its failures. But the WHO exposed the lies of BJP," IYC national president Srinivas BV said, quoting WHO's latest report on the global toll of the coronavirus in which it claimed India witnessed 47 lakh deaths between 2020 and 2021. Attacking the ruling dispensation, he further said, "There is a huge difference between the figures given by the Modi government and the figures of WHO." "Our demand is that the Government of India should give a compensation of Rs four lakh to all who died due to Covid," Srinivas said. The IYC demand immediate establishment of a Covid Commission, consisting of members of all political parties, to find out how many people actually lost lives, he said.
