IMFA, JU organises its Annual Day and Art Exhibition

Jammu, May 30: The Institute of Music & Fine arts, University of Jammu today organized its Annual Day Function and an Art Exhibition in the Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium & General Zorawar Singh Auditorium respectively. Prof. R.D. Sharma, former Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu was the Chief Guest in the Musical program while a reputed writer from /Canada Dr. Taqi Abidi was the Guest of Honour on the occasion.
Mohan Lal, SSP J&k Police was the Special Guest. On the occasion, students of IMFA performed classical items like Tabla, Sitar, Violin & vocal items as well as Kathak Dance. The performances of the students were highly appreciated by the Audience, particularly the item presented by the Vocal Department & Kathak department. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. R.D.Sharma the Chief Guest of the function lauded the efforts of IMFA in promoting classical items in the Jammu province. He described IMFA as the only Institute which is imparting the education of art & classical instruments in the whole province. Describing music as an important part of new education policy, Prof. Sharma stressed that these subjects must be incorporated in the school & college of the Jammu province.
Dr. Taqi Abidi while speaking on the function informed that in Western countries, music & fine art are given an important position in every sphere of life. He said that he visited IMFA last year too & found a lot of talent in music & fine arts. Both these streams need to be popularized more & more for which he offered his full support. He also asked the students & teachers of IMFA to prepare some portraits & sketches of prominent cricketers, literary, etc which he would display in the art gallery of Canada.
Dr. Priya Dutta presented the Annual Report of IMFA. She informed that numerous Workshops were conducted by Music Department during the last one year. The workshops were also conducted in the remote districts of Jammu province like Rajouri & Reasi. Besides, Fine Art department also conducted many National Workshops & awareness camps under the guidance of Sh. Rakesh Sharma & Dr. Milan Sharma. They also worked with Jammu smart City Project, sotto, JKACS & Directorate of Tourism.
Earlier in his welcome address, prof. Shohab Inayat Malik, principal IMFA presented a brief history of IMFA. He informed that IMFA was established in 1964. Since 2011, it was part of JK Cultural Academy, Later in 2011, it was taken up by the Jammu University.
