Srinagar, May 30: A gunfight has raged between militants and security forces in Awantipora sub-district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Monday evening.
This is the second gun battle in Kashmir in the last 24 hours.
The latest gunfight erupted at Rajpora area of Awantipora during a cordon and a search operation.
"As the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight," a security official said.
A policeman spokesman said Police and security forces are on the job.
Earlier the day, security forces shot dead two local Jaish-e-Mohammad militants in a gun battle in neighbouring Pulwama. |
