Brucella vaccination campaign launched across Jammu division

JAMMU, June 1: Department of Animal Husbandry Jammu today officially launched the National Animal Disease Control Programme for Brucellosis Disease in Cattle here from Narwal Bala.
The programme aims at vaccinating 4 to 8 months old female calves against the Brucellosis Disease. Brucellosis Disease
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Executive Officer Livestock Development Board, Jammu Dr Tariq Parvez, urged the farmers to take full advantage of the programme and get their livestock vaccinated against Brucellosis disease as the disease is a serious impediment in the overall growth of the livestock sector and the economic losses inflicted by the disease upon the dairy farmers are huge.
Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Jammu Dr Altaf Ali Syed, spoke about the zoonotic significance of the disease, it's manifestations in human population. He highlighted the importance of vaccinating livestock for prevention of this disease.
As part of the vaccination campaign, eligible female calves were also vaccinated and ear-tagged as per SOPs in vogue in this regard.
Disease Investigation Officer, Extension Officer Publicity Wing, Livestock Development Officer, Sarpanch Lower Sunjwan, Jammu, PRI members and farmers besides other officers and staff of the Animal Husbandry department were also present on the occasion. Earlier, the programme was launched with flagging off the vehicles containing Brucella vaccines from the Directorate complex, TalabTillo, in the presence of Officers and staff of the Animal Husbandry Department Jammu.
It is pertinent to mention here that the National Animal Disease Control Programme was launched by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sept. 11, 2019 and it envisages control of FMD and Brucellosis diseases in livestock by 2025 and their complete eradication by 2030.
