GDC Vijaypur organized a two day activity on "World No Tobacco Day"

JAMMU, June 1: Government Degree College, Vijaypur celebrated World No Tobacco Day, to mark the significance of the day, by organizing a poster making competition on the theme "Commit to Quit" and by taking "Anti-Tobacco Pledge" on the first day i.e. on 31-05-2022 and a lecture by Prof. Saratj Ahmed Sheikh was organised on the second day i.e. on 01-06-2022. This event was an endeavor to spread the message of protecting the health of the masses by making them aware of the detrimental effects of tobacco consumption on human body. NSS volunteers and other students participated in the event with great zeal, enthusiasm and fervor; relishing the competition, vital information dissipated and enriching ideas shared and put forth.
The participants showed the ill effects of consuming tobacco in any form through their posters in which first position was shared by Nikita Pandit and Taniya Chalotra of Sem.VI, second position was secured by Pooja Kumari of Sem.I and third position by Ankit Sharma of Sem.VI. Consolation prizes were given to Simran Kour and Tavleen Kour of Sem.III. Prof. Sartaj Amhed Sheikh breifed the staff and the NSS volunteers about the ill effects of tobacco.
The event was conducted under the able guidance of Dr. Sangeeta Sudan, Principal of the college. She apprised that the theme 'commit to quit' must be followed vigorously as smoking not only affect individuals but also destroy their family and threaten development of any nation whose people are more into smoking. An anti-tobacco pledge was also taken by the entire team of the college as their social responsibility towards "Tobacco Free Nation". The event was coordinated by Dr. Naseem Chowdhary (NSS PO) and adjudicated by Dr. Shittal Sharma and Prof. Sartaj Ahmed Sheikh. Certificates were awarded to all the participants and winners of the competition.
