JU Celebrates ‘Josh-E-Sarhad’ at International Suchetgarh Border

Jammu, June 11: University of Jammu organized first of its kind tour to International Suchetgarh Border-Jammu to celebrate ‘Josh-E-Sarhad’ which is an initiative of Prof Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu.
While addressing the mammoth gathering, Vice Chancellor, Prof Umesh Rai said that the purpose of organizing this event is to connect education with the need of the society.
“And this vision of the country should not be confined to the four walls of the classes, so to connect the education with the challenges of the society and to understand our history,” said Vice Chancellor, adding, “This shall also promote social harmony, confidence building and above all this is part of the education.”
Prof Umesh Rai said that such activities focus on the holistic development of the student. “Primary job of the teacher is to create interest of the student in the discipline, so this function is organized keeping in mind that happiness is one of the agendas of education and I am hopeful that you all will go back home happily after attending this function,” said Vice Chancellor, Prof Umesh Rai.
While invoking the vision of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, Vice-Chancellor said that the new National Education Policy is futuristic and as per world standards, and aimed at fulfilling Dr S Radhakrishnan’s vision of education that empowers a student to participate in national development. Earlier, speaking to media Vice Chancellor besides highlighting the importance and significance of today’s event, also said that this is part of a series of programmes under India @100 Amrit Kaal and in future also such programmes shall be organized.
While responding to a query regarding National Education Policy (NEP), Vice Chancellor Prof Umesh Rai said that University of Jammu is all set to implement new education policy, which holds the vision of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
Prof Umesh Rai also expressed his gratitude to the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor-Shri Manoj Kumar Sinha for his vision and it is because of his guidance and directions, University of Jammu is achieving greater heights. “University of all prepared with the curriculum of minors and majors, but waiting for template from University Grant Commission (UGC),” said Prof Umesh Rai, adding, “Today’s event is connected with National Education Policy, as it focuses on innovation, skilling and entrepreneurship, because university is of the belief that skills cannot be imparted within the four walls of the classroom.”
It is pertinent to mention that the event was organized by the office of Dean Students Welfare (DSW) led by Prof Prakash Anathal and Dr Imran Farooq was the nodal officer of the event and they were duly applauded by one and all.
On the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof Umesh Rai in presence of Vice Chancellor Cluster University Jammu, Bechan Lal, Registrar-Prof Arvind Jastrotia and CDC Director Prof Rajnikant felicitated DIG BSF-Surjit Singh, Commanding Officer-Ajay Kumar, Company Commander-Jaswant Singh and SDM RS Pura-Ram Lal for their support.
Among others Prof Rajni Dhingra, DRS, Prof Neelu Rohmetra, Director, CDC, senior functionaries of the University, faculty members, Officers, Staff and Students were present on the occasion.
