Arrested LeT militants were assigned job to kill innocents: Police | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, June 11: A day after two newly recruited Laskhar-e-Toiba ultras were arrested in Baramulla district, police said that the duo were tasked to target panchayat raj institution representatives and minority community. Senior Superintendent of Police Baramulla Rayees Mohammad Bhat, said the two identified as Irshad Ahmad Mir and Zahid Bashir both residents of Nehalpora, Pattan were arrested on Friday from Palhalan. He said Irshad was reported missing on May 9 and during investigation it surfaced that he had joined the militant ranks through a module of LeT. The SSP said Zahid also went missing on May 20 and it came to the fore that he had been lured by LeT militants to join them. “Inputs further revealed that both the terrorists were tasked to operate in general area Pattan for targeting vulnerable and soft targets and PRI members / minority community,” SSP said. He said on Friday a specific intelligence was received regarding the movement of the two in general area of Ghat Palhallan. “Accordingly joint teams of Baramulla Police & 29 RR laid an ambush in the evening hours and succeeded in apprehending the two,” he said The SSP said two Chinese made Pistols with 18 live rounds and 3 magazines were recovered from their possession. |
