DC Jammu reviews flood protection preparedness ahead of monsoons

JAMMU, June 20: Deputy Commissioner Jammu Avny Lavasa today chaired a meeting to discuss and review flood protection preparedness in view of the ensuing monsoon season, here at a meeting of stakeholder departments. The concerned officers gave a detailed presentation about the flood prone areas and protection measures being made to deal with any eventuality. Asking the officers to work out flood management plans, the DDC underlined the need to activate control rooms at District, Tehsil and block levels to ensure their functioning round the clock.
Directions were passed for identification of vulnerable points and cleaning deep drains and nallahs to prevent water logging during the monsoon. “Keep men and machinery ready with tents, boats, sand bags, life jackets and other rescue equipment and make available dewatering pumps at vulnerable locations as precautionary measures” she asked the concerned departments. The JMC and R&B Department were asked to complete the de-silting of the deep drains in advance to avoid water logging during rains.
She further directed to take immediate measures to fill gaps, if any, to avert/ tackle arising incidents during heavy rainfall and flood like situation in future.
The CMO was directed to ensure availability of sufficient medicine stocks in the district especially related to water borne diseases.
PDD was asked to take measures to prevent power supply disruption and keep alternate power lines ready in case of failure of the main Line.
Later, the Deputy Commissioner also chaired the Meeting of District T.B Forum to review the implementation of the National Tuberculosis Elimination Program.
Issues regarding Molecular Testing, Nikshay Poshan Yojana, community support for TB patients (Nikshay Mitra), GATIMAN, active case finding were discussed in the meeting.
CPO Yoginder Katoch, ACR Vijay Kumar, ACD Ashok Choudhary, CMO Harbaksh Singh, DTO Dr. Perupkar Singh Along with others senior functionaries of JMC, PDD, PHE, Disaster Managements, Police, Irrigation, Health and other concerned officers were present in their respective meetings.
