BIS JKBO organizes sensitization programme for capacity building, promotion of standards at JKPCC | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 20: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu and Kashmir branch office (JKBO), organised a sensitization programme for capacity building and promotion of standards for officials and technical heads of JKPCC Ltd at the meeting hall of JKPCC head office Jammu. The programme’s goal was to improve JKPCC understanding and insights into standard formulation and the use of Indian Standards, as well as to promote the procurement of ISI marked products. The programme was attended by more than 50 JKPCC officials and technical heads of J&K. There were 30 physical participants from the JKPCC office in Jammu and 20 virtual participants from the JKPCC office in Srinagar. Chief Guest, Pradeep Kumar Sharma, Executive Director, JKPCC highlighted the need for Indian Standards in civil and building construction work as well as inputs. He emphasised the importance of raising awareness among engineers about the role of Indian Standards in achieving civil and mechanical standards. The department is very much keen on developing a quality culture and quality consciousness among the engineers and officers and standardisation plays a significant role in this direction, he added. The Executive Director said that focus should be on maintaining quality parameters with respect to maintaining civil quality work, electrical items and other construction-related fields. Joint Director BIS JKBO, Pankaj Atri, highlighted the role of BIS JKBO through a detailed presentation. He highlighted the provisions of BIS certification and other aspects of BIS. He said BIS works to promote quality consciousness and benefits to the general public. He said such awareness programmes are aimed at inculcating the idea of quality among the masses. He said that samples taken from various business and factory units are taken to the laboratory for testing. He said that the general public can register complaints through online mode regarding any violation related to product quality. Besides standardisation and training, BIS also provides hallmarking and compulsory registration, he added. It was informed that 381 products have mandatory ISI marking and that in the near future, more products shall be added to the list for which BIS/ISI marking shall be mandatory. |
