Man-eater leopard that killed 3 children shot dead in Uri | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, July 7: A leopard believed to have preyed on three children last month was killed in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said. In June, the leopard mauled three minors in the Uri area creating fear among the residents. Later, the Jammu and Kashmir wildlife department ordered the killing of a man-eating leopard. Wild Life Warden Rashid Naqash said the leopard was killed at around 11 pm on Wednesday at Bernate Boniyar after repeated attempts of capturing it alive. Naqash said all the evidence confirms that the killed leopard was the one who had mauled three children in the area. The post-mortem of the leopard was also conducted, he said. The leopard had claimed three lives in the Boniyar and Cholan area. 15- year-old Amir Muneer, 12-year old Shahid Ahmad, and another 12-year old girl Rutba Manzoor were mauled to death by the man-eater leopard in three different incidents last month. The killing had triggered protests in Uri Officials said the leopard had escaped ambushes many times. The wildlife had also hired professional hunters to neutralize the leopard. |
