Awareness programme on 'Psychoactive Substances' organised at SKUAST | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 12: Under the able guidance of Prof. J.P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu, National Service Scheme and Health Centre SKUAST-J in collaboration with J&K Society for the Promotion of Youth and Mass, organised programme on 'Psychoactive Substances' to make aware the common mass about the growing menace of drug addiction and use of Psychoactive Substances. Dr Sumati Sharma, Former Additional Director, DRDO, New Delhi was the Chief guest of the function. She advised the students to take proactive steps to eradicate the menace of drug abuse in the society. The programme started with the lighting of lamp and welcoming the chief guest and other dignitaries. Dr. Minu Katoch, Scientist of Indian institute of Integrative Medicine, Jammu and Guest of honour, gave brief of biomolecules being investigated for various ailments. In the welcome address Dean Student welfare Prof. Rajesh Katoch threw lights on the increasing use of drugs among youth particularly students. Dr Anil Gupta in his introductory address stressed upon the awareness of Psychoactive Substances' and said any medicine should be taken with proper consultation and prescription. The expert lecture was delivered by Pallavi Singh Director JKSPM, which also runs a drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centre in Jammu district. She gave a presentation on the 'Myth and facts about Psychoactive Substance abuse'. She called upon the NSS volunteers to remain vigilant and make aware the family members and society about the ill effects of drug abuse. Students took a pledge to make a 'Nasha Mukt' SKUAST-J and its surroundings. The programme was also attended by other teaching and non teaching staff of the faculty. Vote of thanks was offered by Dr. Subhash C Kashyap, NSS programme Coordinator. Dr. Sushma Gupta Medical Officer, Dr. Arvinder Singh, Dr Balbir Dhotra, Dr Nomita Laishram NSS Programme officers, Neeraj Gupta and Richa supervised the function. The programme was a part of series of lectures and to commemorate 'Nasha Mukt' Jammu and Kashmir, for NSS students. |
