JU ‘protected’ some teachers who faced sexual harassment charges | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 12: Alleged suicide by Prof Chander Shekhar of the Department of Psychology has opened a new Pandora's box because earlier many cases of alleged sexual harassment were “ignored” by the authorities of the Jammu University to “shield” the accused. In the year 2017, authorities of Jammu University gave a big relief to a teaching faculty member, who was guilty of sexual harassment on campus. Investigations conducted by the Early Times revealed that the Committee Against Sexual Harassment (CASH) had recommended action against the accused but the accused was given an important position but recommendations remained only on papers. In another case, a professor who was held guilty of sexually harassing a female colleague was appointed on very important position. The said accused was appointed to an administrative post although he was held guilty. Instead of barring a tainted teacher from heading an administrative post, University authorities sought legal opinion in the year 2017 and “clandestinely” appointed him on a very important position in September 2017. Interestingly the same teacher was removed from an important position after he was held guilty of sexually harassing his colleague. |
