Udhampur becomes “Opposition Mukt” after Mankotia joins BJP
9/30/2022 11:10:22 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 30: The decision of the two-time MLA and a firebrand leader of Jammu province Balwant Singh Mankotia to join the BJP is a shot in the arm for the Saffron Party because with his (Mankotia’s) joining Udhampur virtually became “opposition Mukt”.
Balwant Singh Mankotia started his political career as head of the Dogra Kranti Dal and as a leader of this non-political group he became a popular face in the Udhampur district.
Although Mankotia had lost the 2014 assembly elections from the Udhampur assembly seat, he is a vibrant force in the Udhampur district.
From the day when Mankotia had resigned from the primary membership of the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party BJP was trying to woo him because party leadership is very much aware of his potential. Mankotia is a two-time MLA from Udhampur and resigned from the Panthers Party on February 10, 2021, citing a “family issue”. Mankotia, a resident of Udhampur, had made his entry in the J&K legislative assembly twice and was presently president of the Panthers party. Highly placed sources in the BJP said that before Mankotia joined Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on April 10 this year along with hundreds of his supporters he was in touch with the BJP but things could not be materialized. “Even after Mankotia joined AAP the party leadership was trying to convince him to join BJP due to his capability and popularity in Udhampur district in particular and Jammu province in general”, a senior BJP leader told the Early Times.
He said that party leadership has promised to utilize the popularity of Mankotia in a respectable and honourable manner.
