Jammu, Oct 8: Even as a team of police officials continue to interrogate Yasir Ahmed Lohar, the accused in the assassination of Director General prisons, Hemant Kumar Lohia, in the latest the police are probing where the “assassin” had been for one-and-a-half year of his life. While the police have got to know that Yasir had been working as a domestic help with Lohia and his family for the last around six months, there are some “missing links” about his previous life, as to where the accused had been working for one and a half year prior to being hired by the Lohias. Sources said a team of officials has been deputed to verify about the people Yasir had been in touch with during that period. Sources said the call details of the said period were also likely to be probed. Believed to be a matric pass by qualification, Yasir who hails from Ramban, as per the police, had been maintaining a diary on which he would “pen down Urdu ideas in Roman English.” He is believed to be a dropout from Higher Secondary School Rajgarh, Ramban. “I hate my life. Zindagi to bas takleef deti hai. Sukoon to ab maut hi degi. (Life only brings sorrow, only death will bring me peace now)… Dear death, please come into my life. I am always waiting for you,” some of the excerpts from the diary being perused by the police. As per the preliminary police investigations Yasir had gone into Lohia’s room to help him in massaging his swollen foot on the fateful night. He later locked the room from inside and attacked him. While making attempts to suffocate him, the killer used a broken ketchup bottle in slitting his throat. He had also attempted setting him afire. He had subsequently fled from the spot. The security experts have been seeking probe into alleged lapse on the part of Lohia’s personal security on guard at the house. Lohia, a senior IPS officer from Assam had joined the Jammu and Kashmir cadre on October 11, 1992. Interestingly he was DIG of the Ramban Doda range earlier, where from Yasir hails. |
