New Delhi, Nov 5: Varanasi is a very important city for Indian Railways. Apart from the city’s mythological and spiritual significance, Varanasi is a key railway hub that connects remote provinces making it a vital transit point for hundreds of passenger and freight trains from different parts of the country. Keeping this significance in view, various projects are being executed by Northern Railway, Lucknow Division for improving passenger facilities, safety, security and modernization of railways. Hon'ble Minister of Railways, Government of India, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Railways, Communications & Electronics and Information Technology arrived in Varanasi today to review progress of on-going development projects. The Hon'ble Minister of Railways first went to Kashi Station and examined up-gradation work for making Kashi an intermodal station. The Hon'ble Minister of Railways acquainted himself and interacted with Officers of Headquarters of Northern Railway present on location. “This work should reflect our commitment to quality and be finished within stipulated timeline,” he said. Shri Vaishnaw inspired everyone to do their best and work with open minds as dynamic, multi-dimensional individuals. He discussed operations with the Station Superintendent and also held a press conference with media persons present at Kashi station for the occasion. Thereafter, the Hon'ble Minister of Railways reached the Malviya Bridge for inspection whereupon he gave necessary suggestions and instructions. He familiarized himself about a new 04-lane railway and 06-lane road bridge to be constructed parallel to Malviya Bridge. Also present on the occasion was Shri Ravindra Jaiswal, Hon'ble Minister of State (Independent Charge), Stamp & Court Fee and Registration, Government of Uttar Pradesh. During this inspection, the Hon'ble Minister of Railways laid special emphasis on safety, security, punctuality of train operations along with best passenger services and amenities. After inspecting Malviya Bridge, the Hon'ble Minister of Railways travelled by train from Varanasi Station towards Rae Bareli. He reviewed track safety during window trailing and suggested guidelines in this regard. On reaching Rae Bareli Station, Hon'ble Minister of Railways met Shri Dinesh Pratap Singh, Hon’ble Minister of State ( Independent charge), Horticulture, Agricultural Marketing, Agricultural Foreign Trade and Agricultural Exports, Govt. of Uttar Pradesh at Raibareli Railway station and discussed the issues of development in this area and held a press conference with media persons present at the station before leaving for Modern Coach Factory, Raebareli. Hon'ble Minister of Railways visited the factory premises of Modern Rail Coach Factory, Raebareli. During this visit the General Manager of Modern Coach Factory, Raebareli Shri S.S. Kalsi apprised the Minister about the manufacturing and technology of different types of coaches in Modern Coach Factory. He expressed his happiness to see the technical, design and quality of coaches made in Modern Coach Factory. During the inspection of the factory, he inspected the manufacturing infrastructure of Vande Bharat trainsets and motor coaches of Vande Bharat trainsets being made in Modern Coach Factory, Raebareli, so that regular production of Vande Bharat trainsets could be started. Further, in this visit, fully automatic machines such as CNC machines, Laser cutting welding machines, Fiber Laser cutting machines and automatic wheelset machines in the wheelshop were seen in the Shell assembly line. Thereafter, he saw the furnishing of economy coaches, and he flagged off the coaches of AC economy class. The AC Economy class coaches have been manufactured with latest technology, providing additional facilities to provide convenient and safe journey to the passengers as well as wide entry gates and toilets have been constructed for the convenience of the differently-abled passengers. The number of berths in AC Economy class coaches is 80. Shri Ashutosh Gangal General Manager, Northern Railway, New Delhi, other Officers from Headquarters and Shri Suresh Kumar Sapra, Divisional Railway Manager, Northern Railway, Lucknow were also present on the occasion along with officers and employees of the Division.
