Former militants give ‘cover fire’ to SFA scam | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 5: Even as State Football Academy established during the previous Peoples Democratic Party regime has come under the scanner for “gross financial irregularities, some former militants are accused of defending those involved the scam.” Source said while the government agencies are looking into the complaints of “major scam” at the SFA, the role of “at least two former militants hailing from Srinagar, who had surrendered in 1990s have been supporting those involved in the scam and against whom numerous complaint were sent to the concerned officials.” “What needs to be seen is that how come former militants were calling the shots and were close to the persons who are seen as major beneficiaries of the SFA scam,” said a source privy to the details of the alleged scam. Sources said the matter of “large scale financial irregularities at the SFA since the PDP led government was in power have come to the notice of the corridors of power in New Delhi.” The sources said numerous complaints in this regard have been made before various government agencies and that an action was expected in the coming days. It was reliably learnt that “preliminary inquiry” into the matter is already underway. With Prime Minister, Narendra Modi having pledged to weed out corruption from Jammu and Kashmir, the matter is likely to be taken to its logical conclusion on priority. “A bigger question is that what was the need to establish the SFA and how come some of the influential minted fortunes out of the public money. This complaint is of loot of government money for sure and has to be probed at any cost. Accountability needs to prevail,” the sources said. As per the documents accessed by the Early Times, the irregularities in financial transactions include “transfer of public money into private and family business accounts.” |
