“All is not well” in J&K Cong; party divided among factions | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 5: Although former minister Yogesh Sawhney has strongly refuted reports that he was mulling quitting the party, all is not well in the Jammu and Kashmir Congress as infighting again gripped the Union Territory (UT) unit. On the one hand, the J&K unit of the party has virtually become bankrupt due to the non-availability of funds in the coffer of the party and secondly, senior leaders are finding it difficult to digest the young Congress president of J&K Vikar Rasool Wani. Highly placed sources in Congress said a coterie of senior leaders is trying to dominate the proceedings by trying to get their loyalists appointed on important positions. “Senior Congress leaders are still trying to create confusion and have created factions within the party.” After Ghulam Nabi Azad and his loyalists resigned from the party, Congress leadership was hoping that things would be streamlined and there would be no factionalism in the party. “Nothing has changed in the party. Earlier Congress was divided between loyalists of Azad and an official group headed by G A Mir but now the Congress is divided among four factions”, sources said. Important to mention here that amid rumours, former minister Yogesh Sawhney on Friday firmly denied all allegations of leaving the Congress party. He confirmed that his membership, support, and loyalty to the party will continue as is, and all rumours of parting ways with the Congress are totally baseless. The former Minister also stated that he stands firm in his 40 year long association with the party and he will continue his political career under the aegis of the Congress party in future as well. |
