11/12/2022 10:44:12 PM
Early Times Report
RAJOURI, Nov 12: World Pneumonia Day was observed at the Primary Health Centre Manjakote under the theme "Pneumo Light 2022," with the theme and slogan "Pneumonia Affects Everyone."
The programme was organised on the directions of Deputy Commissioner, Vikas Kundal, and under the direct supervision of CMO, Dr Abdul Hamid Zargar.
The CMO highlighted the importance of creating awareness about pneumonia among the people. "Pneumonia leads to inflammation of the lungs by pathogens, and it is one of the leading causes of death among children under five years across the globe," he added.
He urged the health workers to talk about pneumonia during home visits and VHNDs, as it is curable with proper medical treatment.
He also emphasised the importance of hand washing and wearing a face mask to prevent the spread of pneumonia. He further said that the reason for observing this day was to aim for zero deaths caused by pneumonia by 2030.
Health Department Kandi celebrated World Pneumonia Day along with School Health Day at Kandi.
Speaking at the event, BMO Kandi Dr Iqbal Malik said that the symptoms of pneumonia range from mild to severe. It includes fever, cough, which may be dry or produce a thick yellow, green, or brown, blood-stained mucus, difficulty breathing, shivering, loss of appetite, lethargy, blood in the sputum, chest pain, etc.
Mohd Ayoub Lone, Community Health Officer Kandi, said that the prevention of this disease is possible through maintaining hygiene, covering the mouth and nose with a mask, frequent washing of hands, and vaccines related to the flu.
Dr. Iqbal Malik further said that in case of any such symptoms, the patient should consult a doctor for proper treatment and not rely on self-medication.
Meanwhile, complete health and screening services are being provided every Saturday during School Health Day, along with awareness.
