MeT predicts light to moderate rain, snow in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 13: An approaching Western Disturbance is likely to cause light to moderate rain, snow over higher reaches and at some places in plains even as the minimum temperature plummeted causing cold conditions all across the Kashmir valley on Sunday. Meteorological Centre Srinagar forecast of general cloudy weather with light to moderate rain/snow over higher reaches at most places and at some places in plains may receive 1-2 inches of snow on November 14. The weather will remain cloudy from November 15-18 and widespread light to moderate rain/snow chances of 75 per cent from November 19-20, the MeT office said. Snowfall & low temperature may lead to temporary disruption of surface transportation, mainly over Zojila, Sadnatop, Mughal road and other high altitudes during November 14-20, the MeT office said and advised the people prior to embark on journey, to know the status of road from traffic police. An independent weather observer Faizan Arif said ?It is possible, due to low temperatures, snow may fall in some plains between Sunday night and Monday afternoon, with maximum chances on Monday morning?. He said Snow chances for Shopian 70 per cent, Kupwara 50 per cent, other plains 30-45 per cent chances. Due to the short duration of the spell, not much snow is expected to accumulate. Day temperature on Monday will stay below 7 degree Celsius at most places in Kashmir. In Srinagar the sun appears this morning much to the delight of the people with cold conditions prevailing on Sunday. Srinagar recorded a low of 0.8 degree Celsius which was 0.4 degree Celsius below normal during this period of the season. The minimum temperature on Sunday further dipped all across the Kashmir valley as the ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 3.6 degree Celsius against the minus 0.3 degree Celsius which was minus 3.3 degree Celsius below normal during this time of the year. Tourist resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded a low of minus 3.8 degree Celsius overnight which was minus 2.6 degree below normal, while Qazigund had minus 0.2 degree Celsius which was minus 1.5 degree below normal during this time of the season. The frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara was recorded a low of minus 1.4 degree Celsius previous night which was minus 1.9 degree below normal during the period, |
