Amit Shah seeks feedback on democratic activities in J&K | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 29: Even as the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah on December 28 chaired a high level meeting to review security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, the holding of elections in the coming months seems likely. Sources close to the meeting held in the national capital said Shah in particular sought feedback for the “democratic activities” in the Union Territory. Sources said the response from the ground agencies including the police and paramilitary forces as also the intelligence agencies was satisfactory. Its pertinent to mention that on December 24, hinting that Assembly elections will be held in between April-May 2023, the BJP national general secretary and incharge Jammu & Kashmir UT, Tarun Chug asked the party men to fully gear up for the polls. Addressing a meeting of party here that day, the BJP national general secretary, had said the party men should not lose time but fully concentrate on strengthening the party from grassroots level. The party sources said that Chug dropped enough hints that much talked about Assembly elections in the UT can be held by April-May next year, something that could be sensed from the meeting chaired by Amit Shah as well. Even though the decision to hold the elections is to be taken by the Election Commission of India, the ground situation for holding of the event is to reviewed in coordination with the security grid, which comes under the MHA, said an observer. The elections have been pending in Jammu and Kashmir since 2018 when the Peoples Democratic Party –Bharatiya Janta Party alliance collapsed leading to subsequent collapse of the Assembly. Various political parties have been seeking holding of elections for the last few months while the political outreach on the ground by the political parties has already been underway. |
