Jaish commander Nengroo killed in Sidhra encounter? Police launch probe
1/1/2023 11:50:53 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 1: The deadly encounter in Sidhra area of Jammu that left four terrorists killed may have included a top commander of the dreaded Lashkar in “the most wanted list.”
Top sources told the Early Times that one of the terrorists killed in Jammu on December 28 morning encounter is suspected to be senior Jaish-e-Mohammed, commander Ashiq Ahmad Nengroo, accused of being a key perpetrator in the Pulwama car-bombing.
Nengroo, who had been hiding in Pakistan, is already in the most wanted list of terrorists in India. His house in Pulwama was demolished by authorities in Kashmir on December 10.
Official sources said while the bodies of the slain terrorists couldn’t be identified as the truck caught fire, the intelligence inputs have suggested that Nengroo was part of the group trapped by the alert security forces.
Sources said the intelligence agencies have credible inputs that Nengroo had infiltrated along with the other three from Pakistan into Jammu frontiers before boarding the truck that was intercepted by police in Sidhra here.
Giving details about that morning encounter, a source in police department said the terrorists opened fire at the search team as soon as they flagged down the truck at a check-post.
All four of them were killed in retaliatory fire, though the driver managed to escape, the sources said adding the truck, which had a fake registration number, caught fire during the shootout.
A senior official said on the condition of anonymity that the fire left the bodies burnt.
Seven AK rifles, one M4 carbine, three pistols and other arms were recovered. Sources in the police also said the terrorists could have been travelling to Srinagar.
A senior official said a probe has been launched to ascertain the if Nengroo was also killed in the encounter.
The sources said the “Nengroo angle” was being probed seriously and that his possible killing could be major achievement for the government.
