Civilian injured in Srinagar blast, arms recovered in Kupwara

Srinagar, Jan 1: A civilian was injured in a grenade blast in Srinagar's old city on Sunday evening, police said.
The grenade was lobbed towards a CRPF in Hawal area which missed the target.
There was an attempt to throw grenade on a CRPF vehicle in crowded area of MK chowk it missed target & caused minor splinter injury to one local boy, a police tweet said. It added that operations have been launched in the area to nab the culprit.
Meanwhile, Police in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir arrested a man and recovered a huge quantity of arms, ammunition and narcotics.
Police termed the recovery of arms and ammunition a major success for the forces.
Police said based on specific information that a huge consignment of arms, ammunition and narcotics has been smuggled in by two persons in Chatkadi area of Karnah Kupwara, a joint search operation was carried out by police and Army.
During the search operation one Umar Aziz son of Aziz-u- Rehman Kumar a resident Chatkadi was apprehended. On his sustained questioning, Umar confessed about the receiving of a consignment of arms , ammunition and narcotics by him and his other associate, a police statement said.
On Umar's disclosure, a detailed search was carried out and a huge consignment of narcotics and arms and ammunition was recovered from Garangnard Chatkadi. The recoveries include five pistols, 10 magazines, 77 pistol rounds, one pistol cleaning rod, one pistol user manual guide, four hand Grenades and 10 packets of heroin like narcotics substance weighing 9.450 Kgs, police said.
Police said as per inputs, the consignment was meant for The Resistance Front- an offshoot of p Lashkar- e- Taiba (LeT).
Police said an FIR has been registered and investigation taken up.
