KVK distributes free demo kits on natural farming | | | Early Times Report POONCH, Jan 5: Krishi Vigyan Kendra Poonch working under the aegis of Directorate of Extension, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies Jammu today organized a programme on Natural Farming during which free demo kits were distributed among interested farmers. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mushtaq Guroo, KVK Poonch said that the main purpose of this programme is to create the awareness among the farming community regarding the ill effects of chemical farming that have taken place over the years. The indiscriminate use of chemical fertilizers like urea and DAP etc. in last 3-4 decades especially after the green revolution has led to the soil degradation, eutrophication of land and water bodies and loss of biodiversity besides adverse effects on human heath, he said. To arrest the ill effects of chemical fertilizers, Natural farming is a viable potion, he explained. During the said programme detailed information on different components of Natural Farming like Jeevamrit, Beejamrit, Mulching and Whapsa was conveyed to participating farmers and it was impressed upon farmers to advance on the principles and practices of Natural Farming for the sustainability of agriculture and betterment of ecosystem in the long run. The participating farmers thanked the KVK Poonch for motivating and inspiring them regarding the Natural Farming and assured that they will implement the principles of Natural Farming in their farm lands for restoring the soil fertility and minimizing the harmful effects of chemical fertilizers. The programme ended with vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Ramandeep Kour. |
