All is not well in NC, leaders distance from demolition of colleague’s house | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Jan 27: Even as the administration demolished the house of senior National Conference leader built “on government land” in Srinagar on January 25, most of the party leaders have seemingly distanced themselves from the issue hinting that “all is not well in the grand old party of Kashmir.” While most of the senior leaders didn’t even issue a formal statement to condemn the demolition, their silence seemingly sided with the statement of the administration that the house had been built up on government land in Humhama near the Srinagar Airport. Sources said “the relations between the family whose house was demolished and other party leaders were not good.” “The message from this distancing is clear that the party doesn’t stand with their leader whose house was demolished,” said an insider. Interestingly most of the senior leaders have even not shared the video of their party colleague, Salman Sagar who is the son of Ali Muhammad Sagar about the demolition. “All this silence suggests that the party doesn’t want to be a party to the controversy. The same has been quite visible,” said a senior leader on the condition of anonymity. Observers said “Since August 5, 2019, every Kashmiri politician is concerned about his own personal interests and nobody else’s controversies. And here it was a complaint of government land grab.” Officials sources that a team of the Revenue Department led a demolition drive to reclaim state land from the “encroachers”. They said that the outer wall, the main gate as well as the entry of the guardroom of the NC General Secretary’s residence in Humhama, near the airport were demolished as part of the government’s demolition drive against the “land grabbers”. Sources said that the former minister and his family currently reside in the house but were not present at the time of the demolition. Officials said that Sagar’s Humhama home was allegedly in his wife’s name. Despite repeated attempts the NC leadership was not available for comments. |
