KVK organizes awareness programme on natural farming | | | Early Times Report REASI, Feb 3: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies Jammu (SKUAST-J) organized awareness programme on natural farming under "Up scaling of natural farming through KVKs" project here today at KVK, Reasi campus in Reasi distt. of J&K which was enthuastically attended by a number of farmers of the area. The programme was organized under the able guidance of Director Extension, Prof. SK Gupta of SKUAST-J. The programme was organised to create awareness among the farmers on natural farming and guide them on the various practices required for natural farming. The programme was inaugurated by the Sarpanch of the area Sukhdev Singh who appreciated KVK, Reasi for organizing such a useful programme. He urged the farmers to adopt the natural farming as it is useful to produce the healthy food. Sr. Scientist and Head of KVK, Reasi, Dr. Banarsi Lal said that natural farming is the need of the era and informed that it is beneficial for the maintenance soil health and environment. He further said that Reasi district of J&K has huge potential in natural farming and the farmers of the area can generate more income and employment by producing the quality food through natural farming. He stressed on the cluster based approach for the adoption of natural farming. He narrated that natural farming is agro-ecology based farming which integrates crops, trees, livestock and functional biodiversity. He elaborated the four pillars of natural farming and stressed on the adoption of zero budget natural farming. He also elaborated the practices of mulching, Acchadana and various other biocontrol agents required for the natural farming. Earlier Dr. Suja Nabi Qureshi, Scientist warmly welcomed the participants and briefed the significance of natural farming. He said that for a healthy society, healthy food is required and natural farming can play an important role for the production of safe food. He also said that natural farming is a promising means of reducing the dependence of farmers on external inputs, reducing the cost of cultivation and increasing the income of the farmers. He discussed on the importance of farm fields as a source of organic matter and spoke on the usage of indigenous seed and bioinoculants as the catalyst required for natural farming. KVK Scientists also demonstrated the preparation of Jeevamrit, Beejamrit, Panchgavya etc. Participants asked various quarries regarding the natural farming which were answered satisfactorily by the officials. Various key points on natural farming were also discussed during the training programme. Farmers thanked KVK, Reasi for organizing such a useful programme. Farmers also visited the natural farming model of KVK, Reasi and other demonstrated units and showed keen interest in the technologies demonstrated by KVK. The programme was also attended by Naib Sarpanch, Kamal Singh, Panch Girdhari Lal and other PRIs. The programme was assisted by Manohar Lal and concluded by Dr. Banarsi Lal with the formal vote of thanks. |
