Administration, locals join hands to shift landslide affected families to safer places

Kishtwar, Feb 3: In a tragic incident, over two dozen families were shifted to safer places after Nayi Basti area in Thathri municipality of Doda District started sinking as a result of which dozens of houses develops cracks and had become unsafe.
The fresh panic was witnessed among the residents of the area having around 50/60 houses at around 12.30 mid night when the major landslide took place below the village resulted into collapse of some houses.
The area is continuously slipping due to various factors including use of machinery in construction of roads along with seepage of water resulted into weakening of bed roads beneath the village.
Officials of the local administration also visited the spot and assured all possible help to the suffers.
SDM Thathri Athar Amin Zargar told Early Times that people are being shifted to camps and tents added that team of experts also examine the area and declared it unsafe. Zargar said that the phenomena being observed in the area is beyond repairment & hence the whole village is being shifted for which Deputy Commissioner Doda has already issued necessary directions.
The local inhabitants demanded relocation & compensation for the land and structure of the affected families so that they could shift at safer places- and established themselves as a fresh.
The people said that their is immediate need to exile the whole area added that whole population above the National Highway 244 is under threat following Nayae Basti incident.
Meanwhile fresh landslide late in the evening resulted into the closure of NH 244, however the officials diverted the traffic through alternate Link Road bypassing the landslide affected area.
ADC Doda R K Bharti also visited the area and took stock of situation beside to ensure safe shifting of the affected families to nearby PDC quarters.
The local people living in and around Thathri town also join the hands with police and administration to ensure hassle free shifting of the families beside to help them in evacuating the moveable properties owned by the affected families.
As per the list of sufferers issued by SDM Thathri, beside residential houses, local Masjid and girls Madrasa also damaged. Those who suffered losses include Tariq Hussain S/o Kutub Din, Reyaz Ahmed S/o Ghulam Hassan Shah, Noor Mohammad S/o Ch. Noor Ali, Mohammad Iqbal S/o Ghulam Ali, Shah Din S/o Hazoor Din, Abdul Wahid S/o Hazoor Din, Mansoor Hussain Ganie S/o Ghulam Nabi, Abdul Farooq S/o Abdul Subhan, Shafqat Hussain S/o Late Mohammad Ayoub, Gulzar Ahmed S/o Roshan Din, Dil Mohammad S/o Mangta Butt, Mohammad Ashraf S/o Nazir Ahmed Shah, Ali Mohammad S/o Ghulam Ali Sheikh, Mohammad Ayoub Khan S/o Gandar Khan, Mohammad Sharief S/o Shamas Din, Abdul Kabir S/o Hazoor Din, Mohammad Irfan S/o Bashir Ahmed, Mohammad Irfan S/o Mohammad Ayoob, Shokat Hussain S/o Mohammad Yaqoob, Jamsheed S/o Ghulam Qadir.
