2/16/2023 10:40:15 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 16: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office organized a Sensitization Programme for Jammu District Police SHOs at District Police Line Jammu. The objective of the program was to create awareness about ISI mark, Hallmark and compulsory registration schemes of Govt. of India.
Speaking on the occasion, Sh. Tilak Raj, Director & Head, BIS-JKBO gave an overview of the working of BIS.
He said that BIS is the quality ecosystem of the country and works towards consumer protection.
Tilak detailed about police department related standards such as Indian Standards on Bullet Proof Jackets, Non-Metal helmet for police force, High Ankle boots, Polycarbonate shields and rod, Road traffic signals and one of the very important and selected standards IS/ISO 39001 Road Traffic Safety Management Systems.
He emphasized that ISI marked products should be promoted in Police force procurements and also among common consumers to provide them quality, safe, reliable and sustainable products.
He stated that use of only ISI marked helmet should be encouraged by the J&K Police Department to reduce fatality of road accidents, which is a mandatory requirement as per section 129 motor vehicle acts.
Later, Smt. Nisha Bura informed the participants about the common consumer products under mandatory ISI mark certification.
She demonstrated BIS Care App through which authenticity of ISI mark goods, hallmark on gold jewellery and CRS mark on electronic items can be checked in very easy steps.
In case of any issue with BIS certified goods, anyone can easily register online complaint on BIS Care App.
The intimation by BIS JKBO was very much appreciated by the Police Personnel present.
They also proposed to involve BIS in Thana Diwas across Jammu District.
