Narco-terror transactions: Bank accounts under scanner, SIA to begin probe | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 25: With the narco-terror emerging as a major threat in Jammu and Kashmir, the security and intelligence agencies are set to keep eye on bank transactions apprehended to be linked to “drug trafficking.” Highly placed sources said the State Investigative Agency is likely to take over the case for a “large scale scrutiny of the bank accounts apprehended to be linked to narco-terror.” Sources said the narco terror plot in bank accounts was exposed recently in Doda region when the police busted “narco terror bank account nexus.” Police on February 23 froze three bank accounts after fraudulent transactions related to drug trafficking were detected in them in the region. As per a senior official the three bank accounts in the first phase were seen to be witnessing dubious transactions and thus frozen. Sources said the accounts are found linked to more accounts. “It’s becoming like a chain reaction where every account is linked to more accounts and transactions and thus needs through scientific investigations,” said a source in the know of the matter. He said “As a policy matter such cases where bank accounts are linked to terror or narco terror are to be taken over by the SIA.” The Home Department of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) had approved the formation of the State Investigation Agency (SIA) in November 2021 to serve as a nodal organisation for cooperation with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and other central agencies. As per the orders, “The SIA shall take such other measures as may be necessary for speedy and effective investigation and prosecution of terrorism-related cases.” Its pertinent to mention that the Union Home Minister is seriously monitoring the narco terror cases as such incidents are being seen as major financial backbone for the terror groups. |
