Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 26: In a shocking turn in the Gujarati conman, Kiren Patel case, New Delhi apprehends a “breach of electronic surveillance” asking the Jammu and Kashmir Police to “focus on all angles especially the CCTV link.” The development came to fore after the JK police nabbed Amit Pandya, a man from Gujarat who had been accompanying Kiren Patel to Kashmir during the previous visits. Sources said the investigators have learnt that 43-year-old Amit, had again come to J&K this month along with Patel “for business purpose” before being caught. Sources said Amit has told the police that he had come to Kashmir for “CCTV deals.” Sources said the accused has told the police that he was dealing with CCTV equipment and wanted to get contracts in the region through Kiren Patel. A senior official said: “What needs to be thoroughly probed that if a man linked to conman deals with CCTVs, what kind of cameras could they be installing and if the same could be part of some apprehended surveillance breach.” Sources said the matter has come to the notice of the Central Government and that it has directed the J&K Police to “go to bottom of the CCTV side of the story.” It was reliably learnt that New Delhi is taking daily updates on the case from the Jammu and Kashmir administration and that some officers in the national capital have been assigned the task of coordination with the JK Police. While Kiren Patel was arrested from a posh hotel in Srinagar on March 3, two more of his accomplice including Amit were subsequently arrested. Meanwhile, Amit’s father, who was working as Additional Public Relations Officer (PRO) in the Gujarat chief minister’s office (CMO), has reportedly resigned after the arrest of his son. “Nobody asked me to resign. I felt I should resign. I will wind up my pending work by March 31 and be relieved from the office,” a media report quoted him as saying. When contacted a senior official told the Early Times on the condition of anonymity that the case would be taken to its logical conclusion. He however declined to share details. |
